“You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take.”
– Wayne Gretzky (or Michael Jordan…does anyone know for sure?)
This is a great quote. My favorite. Yeah, most sports addicts will say the same, but it means a lot more to me than hitting jumpshots. My entire life has been about taking shots (literally), but also, making difficult decisions relating to my health, financial stability, family, etc.
I’m Brandon, and I’m 37 years old. Yes, technically, I’m disabled, but I have been for a long time now, since 2008, and I’ve worked and socialized through most of it. Today, I’m a diabetic who has extremely high blood pressure, I’m completely blind in one eye, I’m on dialysis due to kidney failure, and I have a rare condition called CIDP, and it has basically ripped away my ability to run and jump, likely for good. I have all of that, but I also have an incredible wife and an amazing daughter, named Harper Joy. I have a big support system that includes my parents and brother, and a few friends outside of the family.
What do I like to do? I used to love playing basketball. I watch any game on TV, any team. I’ll write about it. I definitely like to play whatever games my daughter asks me to. Of course, that includes playing with Barbies. If you’re a #girldad, you feel me.
Finally, if you know me, I’m very respectful in public. Get me enclosed and around family and friends, and you have to have thick skin to make it around me. I can make anyone laugh. Easily. And, oh yeah, if you need advice, or someone to talk to, I’m your guy. Read this blog. You’ll eventually agree.
